Over the last year, I have been tinkering in other ventures other then .net and I have to say that although at times I really hate Microsoft, DAMN can they make a user friendly IDE. My attempts at learning Objective-C and using Apple's X-code and Interface Builder has been in vein. I must say though, I have not given it my all. Time is very tight these day/nights. I have not given up on it yet. I still want the ability to program for Mac and iPhones. I just don't like the user experience that X-Code and Interface Builder deliver.
Call me spoiled but there is nothing like Visual Studio. All in one, no messing around, it's just easy. Switching back and forth from X-Code to IB and then back is cumbersome. Not only that but why the hell do I have to drag links from the property settings to the controls on the interface? Setting up control actions seems backwards to me. Why can't they just allow you to drag a control onto the interface and double click on it to write the code for it? I guess I just don't get it. When working with Apple's product, I constantly think I should change the name of my blog to "Coding In The Dark" cause that's just how I feel about Objective-C! I shall try to give this some more thought later in the year as I have some ideas I'd like to implement on the iPhone.
Now, an update to the Mas-500 "add-on" I've been working on... This will be the 3rd year that I have been adding features to a program that supposedly could do everything I needed and then some. Well let me tell you, if your a fisherman cast your lines this way because I'll most likely swallow it hook, line and sinker! I called my application simply "Management Suite". Why Management Suite? It's simple...When you need a Suite of over 60 unique screen, 50+ reports, 90 new SQL tables, too many new views and procedures to count and thousands of lines of vb and SQL code to help Manage another application, it deserves it name. And I'm not done yet. Not even close. I have to admit that this "little" project of mine has improved my coding and definately increased my knowledge of SQL.
